The NGS is looking for a dynamic, collaborative, and experienced person to lead collection development and management as well as service-related activities, at the its Library & Archive. The key responsibilities and job requirements for this position are as listed below.
The Library & Archive team under the NGS’s Collections Development department is responsible for developing, preserving, managing, and promoting its collection of materials. The team serves the research needs of both internal and external parties, e.g. Gallery curators, art professionals, researchers, and tertiary and graduate students. The Library & Archive team works closely with Curatorial and Collections colleagues in the acquisition, digitization and conservation matters pertaining to the collections of the Library & Archive.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides vision and supervises development of the Library & Archive collections, and its outreach to the public
- Based on research and identified gap areas, leads strategic efforts to analyse and assess collection strengths, needs, priorities and goals in relation to available resources
- Develops and updates a collection development policy in consultation with curators and colleagues across the Gallery to strategically build the collection
- Oversees curation of archival displays in the Gallery’s Rotunda Library & Archive and other related venues
- Manages reader services for Gallery staff and public researchers, as well as staffing the reference desk, to provide the best scholarly and customer service
- Oversees the development of policies and procedures for physical and digital collection access, preservation and conservation to service the public while safeguarding materials
- Oversees effective management of the Library & Archive team and stewardship of the budget
- Continuously evaluates research trends in art history and visual culture of Southeast Asia to ensure the Library & Archive collection stays relevant and contributes to knowledge production
- Actively promotes the Library & Archive in Southeast Asia and beyond to build awareness and develops strategies to increase use at various platforms
- Liaises with other departments and external stakeholders such as artists, artist estates, researchers and other art institutions
Job Requirements
- At least a Masters degree in Art History, Library Sciences or equivalent
- Minimum 10 years professional experience in a reference library or archive, with preference for candidates from an arts background
- Willingness to travel in Southeast Asia for the purpose of building and promoting the archive
- Expertise and working experience in the handling of archival materials would be advantageous
- Fluency in the Chinese or Malay language or other Southeast Asian languages would be advantageous
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Good writing, communication, administrative skills
- Other skills: Microsoft Word, Excel
