The Best Archival Project in the Region Award of SEAPAVAA strives to recognise projects or initiatives that have shown exceptional and significant contributions to the audiovisual archiving field in the Southeast Asia-Pacific region.

This year, SEAPAVAA is proud to present the 2022 Best Archival Project in the Region Award to the Freedom Film Network for their project titled, ā€œSocial Films for Social Change: Social Film Archiveā€.

Freedom Film Network’s Social Film Archive (Arkib Filem Rakyat) is an archive of films and raw footage related to activism and social movements in Malaysia. The archive was initiated in 2020 and remains to be the only archive of human rights footage in Malaysia. The Social Film Archive’s objective is to provide an alternative perspective of people’s history, identity, and nation-building. The archive’s online catalogue will be made available to the public starting March 2023. You may find more information about the Social Film Archive at ArkibFilemRakyat.org.

SEAPAVAA would also like to express its appreciation to AV Preservation byĀ reto.chĀ for sponsoring the 2022 Award.
