We are pleased to announce thatĀ Giovanna FossatiĀ will deliver the keynote lecture at the 27th SEAPAVAA Conference on 8 ā 13 May 2023 at the Mahatai Pattaya Convention Center in Pattaya, Thailand.
Giovanna Fossati is the Chief Curator of Eye Filmmuseum and Professor of Film Heritage and Digital Film Culture at the University of Amsterdam. She recently led the research project The Sensory Moving Image Archive: Boosting Creative Reuse for Artistic Practice and Research and she is currently participating in the project Narratives from the long tail: Transforming access to audiovisual archives.
Fossati is the author of From Grain to Pixel (2009 and 2018 ā revised edition), co-author of Fantasia of Color in Early Cinema (2015) and Exposing the Film Apparatus (2016), and co-editor of The Colour Fantastic (2018) and the special issue of The Moving Image journal on āActivating the Archiveā (2021).
Following up on her position statement āFor a Global Approach to Audiovisual Heritageā (2021), Fossati organized the conference Global Audiovisual Archiving: Exchange of Knowledge and Practices (Eye Filmmuseum, 2022) where more than 90 speakers and 270 participants from around the world discussed the impact of geographical location, availability of resources, technical and digital gaps on film heritage practices, and reflected together about new models for collaboration.
Giovanna will present her keynote lecture titled, Global Audiovisual Archiving: A Call for Collaboration and Sustainability.
