Call for Presentations for the 2022 IASA Annual Conference

Archives of the Future: Open, Sustainable and Equitable

Deadline of Submission: 31st March 2022

The IASA Annual Conference 2022 will be held both face to face and online, from 26th to 29th September 2022. This year, we would like to have a conference to share thoughts about sound and audiovisual archives in the 21st century. How do we imagine the archives in the future? Which will be the main characteristics that they need to have to continue preserving the heritage?

We invite presentations that explore three main concepts: openness, sustainability, and equality. We would like to hear the ideas, projects, and professional experiences from our community to imagine and build archives for the future. Let us think together about the future of archives by participating in the IASA Conference 2022.

The conference will be held in México City at the Fonoteca Nacional and the Institute for Research in Librarianship and Information (IIBI) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). We are glad to meet you face-to-face or online.

For those presenting online, we intend to provide a virtual platform that gives presenters a choice of either live-streamed videos or pre-recorded videos. Live and pre-recorded presentations will be made available online according to the published schedule.

In line with the theme for 2022, attendees will be able to participate in significant portions of the conference remotely, since we will provide online access to those who are not able to attend in person. We are hopeful that the pandemic will subside sufficiently to allow a safe in-person conference, though changes to the conference format might be unavoidable if the epidemiological situation does not improve. Any changes will be announced here.

Proposals for conference presentations on the following topics are invited:

  • Open versus restricted access
  • Metadata and curatorial access process
  • AI and open access
  • Sustainable archives
  • Equitable and ethical archives
  • Digital preservation and the digital life cycle
  • Migration and digitization
  • Research and dissemination
  • Digital content management
  • Community and indigenous archives

If interested, kindly submit your proposal by completing the form through this link: https://2022.iasa-web.org/call-for-presentations. Deadline of submission of proposals on 31st March 2022.

2 – 31 May 2022 and 19 – 21 July 2022

Happy holiday greetings from the SEAPAVAA Executive Council (EC)!

It has been a fervent hope of everyone that we would be able to meet in person in 2022. However, with the continued development of the pandemic situation, bringing with it evolving travel restrictions and differing quarantine protocols, the EC concluded that it is prudent and realistic for SEAPAVAA’s 26th Conference to be held virtually from 19 – 21 July 2022.

The 2022 SEAPAVAA Conference was scheduled to be held in the Pacific. As such, the virtual Conference will have a special focus on issues and challenges faced by Pacific members. Specific details relating to the virtual conference will be shared in early 2022.

SEAPAVAA’s 26th General Assembly (GA) will be held electronically from 2 – 31 May 2022. You will be receiving details on the e-GA in due course.

We also invite you to check out SEAPAVAA’s YouTube Channel where you can access recordings of the virtual 25th Conference sessions.  Recordings of future conferences will be uploaded on the SEAPAVAA YouTube Channel for greater accessibility.

UPSLIS offers Master in Archives and Records Management Program starting A.Y. 2022 – 2023

The University of the Philippines Diliman School of Library and Information Studies (UPSLIS) is proud to announce its new graduate program, the Master in Archives and Records Management (MARM), commencing Academic Year 2022 – 2023. The first of its kind in Southeast Asia, the MARM is a 34-unit, 2-year graduate program that provides students with the knowledge and skills required to work in and develop archives, special collections, record centres, and other memory and collecting institutions.

This program addresses the need for formal education on archives and recordkeeping in the region necessary to support and document critical organizational decisions and activities that will help ensure efficiency, transparency, and accountability in both public and private sectors, and to help preserve and promote our cultural heritage, collective memory, and identity. The program addresses these needs by providing students with strong theoretical and practical foundations and experience on the effective, efficient, and ethical management of records and archival materials.

The practical and theoretical engagements to be provided by the program will prepare the students and future archives and records professionals to be historically and culturally conscious and reflective, while further enriching their experience with information for civic engagement and participatory governance. Thus, the MARM program balances the pragmatic and business aspects of records management, and the historical and cultural dimensions of archives.

  • The MARM program will be offered starting the 1st Semester of Academic Year 2022 – 2023. Applications for this first intake would open sometime around March/April 2022.

  • Individuals with an undergraduate degree in any major with a minimum weighted average grade of 2.0 or its equivalent may apply to the program.

  • Applications will be done through an application form or portal. Applicants will need to provide the following: (i) 2 Letters of Recommendation, (ii) Statement of Purpose, (iii) Results of General Aptitude Test and Diagnostic Test from UP’s Office of Counseling and Guidance, and (iv) Transcript of Records. Applicants will also be asked to take an entrance exam and interview administered by UPSLIS.

  • Foreign students have the same set of documentary requirements as local students, with the addition of an English proficiency exam. Foreign students also need to secure a Study Permit and other visa requirements.

  • Students are required to complete 30 units of coursework (10 courses), a terminal report, a conference paper or journal article, and a comprehensive exam.

For more information on the course outline and other requirements for the UPSLIS’ MARM program, kindly check UPSLIS’ Facebook or website.
